Why is the Battery Bulging and Deformed?

Jul. 23, 2020

As a 18650 3.7 v Battery Factory, share with you. Many batteries have swelling, which is mainly caused by the increase in pressure in the body. For example, mobile phone batteries are easy to swell, and there are more cases. Everyone knows that battery swelling is very dangerous. Let everyone understand the bulging deformation of the battery, the main reasons are the following.

(1) The opening pressure of the safety valve is too high, or the safety valve is blocked. When the internal pressure increases to a certain level, the valve cannot be opened normally. In this case, it is bound to cause bulging deformation.

(2) The float charge voltage is set too high and the charge current is large, which leads to faster O2 precipitation on the positive electrode plate, and it is too late to recombine on the negative electrode. At the same time, the temperature in the battery rises quickly. The VRLA battery is bulging and deformed.

(3) During VRLA battery charging operation, especially in series battery packs, if the battery packs are overcharged, if there are poor quality batteries, there will often be phenomena such as poor internal gas recombination, resulting in bulging.

(4) Because the VRLA battery is a lean-liquid design, there is a reserved way for the combination of gases, and if there is a "rich liquid" phenomenon, it will prevent the generated O2 from diffusing to the negative electrode, reducing the recombination rate of O2 and the internal pressure Increase.

Lithium is a metal element with a chemical symbol of lithium. It is a silver-white, very soft, chemically active metal, and is the lightest among metals. In addition to being used in the nuclear energy industry, it can also manufacture special alloys, special glasses and lithium batteries. In lithium batteries it is used as the anode of the battery.

Lithium batteries are also divided into two categories: non-rechargeable and rechargeable. Non-rechargeable batteries are called disposable batteries, which can only convert chemical energy into electrical energy at one time, and cannot restore electrical energy back to chemical energy. The rechargeable battery is called a secondary battery. It can convert electrical energy into chemical energy for storage, and then convert chemical energy into electrical energy when it is used. It is reversible, such as the main feature of electrical energy chemical energy lithium batteries.

The positive electrode material of lithium-ion batteries is usually composed of lithium active compounds, while the negative electrode is carbon with a special molecular structure. The main component of common positive electrode material is LiCoO2. When charging, the electric potential applied to the two poles of the battery forces the compound of the positive electrode to release lithium ions, which are embedded in the carbon in which the negative electrode molecules are arranged in a sheet structure. During discharge, lithium ions are precipitated from the carbon of the lamellar structure and recombine with the compound of the positive electrode. The movement of lithium ions produces a current high-capacity lithium battery.
